Why the mail says Akron, or Fairlawn
Here is a detail that surprises people. The 44333 ZIP code covers about 97% of Bath Township's land and about 98% of Fairlawn's, according to the Census relationship files (ZCTA-to-county-subdivision, ZCTA-to-place). Our office, on Riviera Drive in Fairlawn, is in 44333 too.
A shared ZIP does not make them one place. Bath is a township and Fairlawn is a city, and the Census map files show the two sharing a boundary (TIGER/Line 2024). When you call from Bath, tell us it is Bath. That one word saves a round of questions.
Roads that run through both
Census road data lists I-77, SR-18 and SR-21 inside Bath Township as well as inside Fairlawn, and I-271 in Bath (TIGER/Line 2024 roads). Bath also borders Akron, Copley Township and Cuyahoga Falls. Its named communities include Ghent, Montrose and Hammond's Corners, and part of Cuyahoga Valley National Park lies inside it, along with Hale Farm and Village and the Bath Nature Preserve (Wikipedia).

The houses, in numbers
Bath's typical home is about the same age as Fairlawn's: the median year built is 1972, against 1973 next door. Owner-occupied homes make up 96.4% of occupied units, and 8.3% of homes predate 1940 (Census Reporter summary of the 2020-2024 American Community Survey).
None of this tells us about any single garage. The survey counts homes, not doors, and a 1970s house can be on its first door or its fourth.
Snow, and where it ends up
NOAA's 1991-2020 normal for the Akron-Canton Airport is 47.2 inches of snow a year, with January alone averaging 13.4 inches (NCEI annual normals, monthly normals). Those are the long-run averages for the area, and any given winter can land well above or below them.
Snow shoveled or plowed against the door becomes meltwater at the threshold. When it freezes again, the rubber seal can bond to the concrete. Running the opener against it may tear the seal or strain the cables. Clear a gap at the bottom edge before you press the button, and see our frozen-door guide if it is already stuck.
A door that lets drafts and drifting snow in around the edges is a separate problem. Our winter insulation guide explains what a replacement door can and cannot change.
Township questions
If a project moves beyond the door itself, into framing, a new opening or new wiring, the Summit County Department of Building Standards is the county office for building permits (Summit County Building Standards). Confirm with them before construction starts. Fixing springs, cables or an opener on the existing door is repair, not construction.
Next step
Call (330) 947-4591 any hour. Mention Bath Township, the road you are on, and what the door is doing. If the trouble looks electrical, snap the sticker on the opener motor. Before booking, we make sure your road is inside our service map.
